This page is your one-stop resource for everything you need before and after your permanent makeup appointment. My goal is to make sure you feel prepared, comfortable, and confident in your healing process. Because every client is unique, I provide a custom aftercare kit at your appointment and personally guide you through what to expect during healing.
At a Glance

Botox & Filler → Wait 2 weeks before or after PMU.

No alcohol, caffeine, or blood thinners 24 hours before.

Healthy skin only → No sunburn, open wounds, or active breakouts.

Healing time → Peeling 3–7 days; color softens over 6–8 weeks.

Touch-up timing → 8–12 weeks for the best finish.
-
Contraindications → Pregnancy, nursing, Accutane, uncontrolled conditions.
Before Your Appointment
Permanent makeup is a tattoo, and your skin health matters.

2 Weeks Before → No Botox, filler, chemical peels, or harsh facials near the area.
-
1 Week Before → Stop retinols, exfoliants, and avoid brow waxing/tinting if doing brows.

24 Hours Before → Skip alcohol, caffeine, and blood thinners (unless prescribed).
-
Day Of → Arrive with clean skin and no makeup on the area.

Lip Clients → If prone to cold sores, take your antiviral as prescribed.

If you have had permanent makeup done elsewhere, I need to see your existing work before booking. Each case is unique and requires my approval to ensure best possible results and proper treatment planning. Book consultation or send pictures to me 518-313-2707.
Aftercare
An aftercare kit is provided at your appointment.
Brows
-
Gently blot with provided wipes if instructed for the first few hours.

Wash lightly with cleanser 1–2x daily, then pat dry.

Apply a very thin layer of ointment for 5–7 days.

Avoid picking, sweating, swimming, and makeup on brows.
Lips
-
Keep lips hydrated with your provided ointment as needed (thin layer).
-
Avoid hot drinks, spicy foods, and kissing during the first 72 hours.
-
Expect mild swelling and flaking; don’t pick at dry skin.

Cold sore prevention medication is strongly recommended for prone clients.
Eyeliner
-
Cleanse gently with provided cleanser or wipes.
-
Use ointment sparingly for 3–5 days.
-
Avoid mascara and eye makeup until fully healed.
-
Expect mild swelling and a “tight” feeling for a few days.
Healing Expectations
-
Days 1–2: Color looks bold; mild swelling or redness possible.
-
Days 3–5: Flaking and peeling begin; color may look patchy.
-
Days 6–7: Most flaking stops; color looks softer, possibly light.
-
Weeks 4–8: Color settles and softens; final healed look develops.
-
Touch-Up (8–12 weeks): Perfects shape and color for long-term results.
Contraindications & Safety
You cannot receive PMU if:

Pregnant or nursing
-
On Accutane (within 6 months)
-
Receiving chemotherapy (without doctor’s clearance)

Active skin infection, rash, or eczema on the area

Uncontrolled high blood pressure or bleeding disorders
-
Recent cosmetic tattooing in the same area (without evaluation)
May require doctor clearance:
Diabetes, autoimmune disorders, blood-thinning medications, recent cosmetic surgery.
